Volkswagen takes the R to EV
The short version
- Volkswagen is turning its R division into electric vehicles.
- They are equipping their new SUV with the 14.1 kWh battery pack for a combined 456 HP.
- The VW’s battery-electric missile has broken lots of records, so putting the R stamp on it is a sign to come.
- The Golf R will also be hybrid, with all wheel drive and hopefully still be “The-car-to-do-it-all.”
So here is the deal… Volkswagen is turning its R division into electric vehicles. This is huge. On top of that, they are equipping them with their 14.1 kWh battery pack, This is exciting because this means that there will be more electric vehicles that in turn will influence other companies to make more electric vehicles.
Now with the Golf R being a hybrid, as well as having an all-wheel drive, this is going to really turn into a bridge car. People who are worried about range anxiety, but still want some of the advantages of electric will find comfort here. This is going to have a huge impact on electric vehicles.
Personally, I’m looking forward to not worrying about inversion anymore, which is a big deal where I’m from.
