If you’re driving a Rivian, then Alexa is riding shotgun.
The short version:
- Rivian has announced Amazon’s voice assistant Alexa will be integrated into the R1T and the R1S.
- The electric vehicle company will also integrate Alexa into the 100,000 delivery trucks that Amazon has ordered.
- Drivers will be able to use Alexa to play music, make calls, control the climate, and control other features.
This is exciting to see, but not too surprising. In fact, the surprising thing would have been if Rivian didn’t integrate Alexa, considering Amazon owns so much of Rivian. If you are one of the few people that don’t have experience with a voice assistant, fear not. They have come a long way from the early days. I love the idea of saying “Alexa, defrost my rear window.”
This will also increase the need for the three big players in the voice assistant world, Apple, Google, and Amazon, to start working together at some level. It could get pretty annoying to have an Alexa car, Google smart speaker, and Apple phone. Heaven help us.
