The short version:
- GM and VW state they will not produce plug-in hybrids (PHEV) in the future.
- Mark Ruess, GM’s president, states hybrids are countermeasures to ICE vehicles.
- Ruess also says everybody knows EVs are going to happen, and he wouldn’t invest in hybrids.
- VW has also expressed similar opinions with the MEB chassis.
I have to agree with GM and VW here. With how quickly the industry is changing, I just can’t see how PHEVs are a good spend of R&D budget. Ford and Toyota are both moving down the PHEV road, so clearly some feel I’m wrong.
