Solar gardens are popping up, but will they last?

https://www.wctrib.com/business/energy-and-mining/4041965-Solar-gardens-blooming-Minnesota-has-more-than-one-third-of-the-total-solar-mini-gardens-in-the-nationSolar gardens are popping up, but will they last?
Breakdown:
  • Minnesota is experiencing a flare of small solar plants or gardens. (Pun intended?)
  • Each plant is around one megawatt in size.
  • Local businesses and communities build, manage, and market the gardens.
  • At this point, power from gardens is as much as three times more expensive and industrial sized solar plants.
  • Growth is slow, but has a home-town feel.
I’m a fan of letting the free market forces work. On the surface, developing solar gardens at three times the cost doesn’t make much sense to me but that’s the great thing about a free market. If it makes sense to somebody else, and they can fund the project, I say go for it. Hopefully these gardens can create a sustainable financial ecosystem, and provide people a feeling of home-town pride.
