German tech in Utah is creating the largest VPP in the US

The short version:

  •  Sonnen, a German energy storage company, is investing in a housing development in Herriman Utah.
  •  They are developing a virtual power plant (VPP).
  •  A VPP is made up of connected solar roofs and batteries so that renewable energy can power the entire complex if the grid loses power.
  •  When it’s done it will be the largest VPP formed by resident batteries in the US with 12.6MWh of solar energy storage.

We need more of this…so much more of this. Roof-top solar with batteries in homes is a fantastic solution. Once one or two of these test cases have been proven the rest of the building industry will follow suit.
